Increased fuel imports in Moldova amid Middle East tensions
About 2,200 tons of gasoline and 2,150 tons of diesel were imported into the Republic of Moldova on Monday, March 16, through several entry points, in the context of maintaining a state of alert in the energy sector caused by developments in the Middle East.
According to the Ministry of Energy, the deliveries were made through the Giurgiulești International Free Port, as well as by road and rail, via the Leușeni and Ungheni customs points. Following these imports, available stocks cover approximately 21 days of gasoline consumption, around 16 days of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and more than 9 days of diesel.
The authorities note that these measures are part of efforts to ensure energy security amid increased risks on international energy markets.
At the same time, the institution urges consumers to use petroleum products rationally and to avoid unjustified purchases, in order to prevent additional pressure on existing stocks.
The situation in the energy sector is influenced by geopolitical developments in the Middle East, a key region for global energy supply, which can generate volatility on fuel markets. The Ministry of Energy continues to monitor the situation and announces that it will intervene, if necessary, to maintain supply stability.
On March 4, the Government declared a state of alert in the energy sector for a period of 60 days, in connection with the external situation. According to the authorities, the measure is preventive in nature and aims to protect domestic consumption and maintain the stability of the energy system.
