VIDEO // Moldovan PM holds daily talks with business representatives

The government aims to reduce bureaucratic barriers for entrepreneurs and create better conditions for investments and business development. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan says the economy is one of the main priorities of the new cabinet, and that direct dialogue with the business community will be one of the ways authorities will identify problems and the necessary solutions.

The PM says that he intends to talk daily with entrepreneurs, in order to learn directly what problems they face and what the state can do to solve them. The prime minister convened a message to this effect while he was in the car, on his way to another destination.

“Every day, I try to speak with as many entrepreneurs as possible – some already present in Moldova, others who are considering investing here. I usually call them while I’m on the road. I thank them first of all for already investing in Moldova, for running businesses here and creating jobs, and then I ask how I can help them,” the prime minister said.

According to Tofan, direct discussions with entrepreneurs allow him to better understand “what keeps things moving in Moldova and where the bottlenecks are.”

“Whether we are talking about an international group or a startup, my message is the same: we want to make things simpler and faster, so that entrepreneurs can grow businesses, invest and create jobs, instead of wasting time because of bureaucracy,” the prime minister underlined.

The PM specified that entrepreneurs are asked about the difficulties they encounter and the problems they report are to be analyzed, in order to identify solutions that can be applied across the entire business environment.

“What we hear directly from entrepreneurs says more than dozens of pages of reports,” Tofan said.

The prime minister notes that the goal is to stimulate investments and create new jobs, so that the economy becomes the government’s main priority.

“More investment and more businesses mean more resources for the whole society. Hence, this government’s priority – the economy,” Vasile Tofan concluded.

In the context, starting from the very first meeting of the new government, the prime minister asked for measures to reduce inspections, which he described as “abusive” and “suffocating” for entrepreneurs. Tofan asked Deputy Prime Minister Eugeniu Osmochescu to present, by September 9, a package of measures to simplify and streamline inspections.

At the same time, the government launched the email address controale@gov.md, where entrepreneurs are encouraged to report cases in which they believe they have been subjected to abusive or excessive inspections. The PM requested that complaints contain as many details as possible about the circumstances of the inspections, so that the cabinet can identify problems and adjust procedures.

Tofan said that the state cannot ask entrepreneurs to invest and create jobs, while they lose time and resources because of excessive inspections. According to the prime minister, reducing bureaucratic pressure and creating a more predictable business environment are essential for attracting investments and relaunching the economy.
