VIDEO // Moldovan deputy PM for European integration, ahead of the Luxembourg meeting: “We are ready and quite determined to carry out the reforms necessary for EU accession by 2030”

Moldova aims to conclude its accession negotiations with the European Union by early 2028 and seeks to open the remaining two negotiating clusters by the end of this year. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect ahead of the fourth Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference, held in Luxembourg today.

The official emphasized that opening two new negotiating clusters represented major progress for Moldova, as the country will have more than half of its accession negotiating chapters open.

“This is an important step for our country in the accession process. Moldova is making great efforts to be ready to conclude the negotiations by early 2028, while an immediate priority is, of course, also opening the remaining two clusters by the end of this year,” Cristina Gherasimov said.

The deputy PM reaffirmed the authorities’ determination to continue the reforms necessary for European integration and to prepare Moldova for accession to the European Union by 2030.

“We are ready and quite determined to carry out the reforms necessary for EU accession by 2030,” Cristina Gherasimov said.

The opening of the two negotiating clusters marks a new stage in Moldova’s process of accession to the European Union. The authorities have set the goal of concluding the negotiations by early 2028, in order to prepare the country for EU accession in 2030.

Statements by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Irish Minister of State for European Affairs Thomas Byrne will be broadcast live from Luxembourg following the fourth Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference.
