Moldovan president, Irish PM discuss EU accession negotiations, bilateral relations by phone
Moldova aims to open all remaining negotiation chapters by the end of the year. President Maia Sandu today made statements to this effect during a phone call with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin. Ireland holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union until December 31. The discussion took place a few days before the European Council meeting, due on October 15–16, the agenda of which includes the enlargement of the European Union.
The two officials also discussed bilateral relations, including the social security agreement, which will guarantee pension rights for Moldovan citizens who have worked in Ireland. Another topic was the European Political Community Summit, which Ireland will host in Dublin on November 12 and which will bring together leaders from across Europe, in order to discuss the security and stability of the continent.
