Spatial data to be centralized and digitized
Searching, viewing and downloading geographic names will be available online. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Regulation of the information resource formed by the Registry of Geographic Names information system. The informational service will represent a digital platform that collects, stores, and provides official information about standardized geographic names, such as the names of localities, rivers, plains or other geographical features.
The online platform will allow the preservation of all geographic names, including historical ones; the preservation of cultural and geographic identity; the prevention of unauthorized changes; and access to accurate historical information. Thus, the online portal rdg.gov.md, which is to be launched next year, will allow the identification of previous names of localities, rivers, or other geographical features, used in old documents and maps.
The data will be accessible to public institutions, the private sector, and citizens.
The Registry will allow quick access to precise and updated data, facilitating decision-making processes in areas such as urban planning, infrastructure, emergency situations, and land management. Additionally, bureaucracy, as well as the time and resources allocated to manual processes, will be significantly reduced.
Furthermore, digitization will reduce the risk of data loss and support economic development by providing updated spatial data for investors and authorities.
Companies in fields such as logistics, tourism, transport, or territorial planning will benefit from quick and efficient access to geographic names, which will support decision-making and project planning.
The Registry will be integrated into the common governmental infrastructure, including platforms like MPass, MConnect, MLog and MSign.
