EU and EBRD strengthen support for Government’s reform agenda
The Government will benefit from additional expertise to accelerate the country’s development agenda under the Reform Support Team project, financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The agreement on extending the project was signed today by Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu, EU Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Iwona Piórko and EBRD Vice President Matteo Patrone.
The document provides for the creation of 20 new expert positions that will work within key central public administration institutions. They will contribute to the development and implementation of public policies and investment projects, including in the areas of infrastructure, economic development, agriculture, energy and environment.
The initiative has been implemented by the EBRD since 2023 and aims to strengthen the institutional capacities of public authorities involved in delivering government priorities. So far, more than 60 experts have been assigned to ministries and institutions. At the meeting between Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and the EBRD delegation, officials underlined the importance of aligning the experts’ profiles with the priorities of the beneficiary ministries and institutions, so that the expertise provided directly contributes to accelerating strategic projects, in line with the priorities set in the EU accession process.
The current project portfolio supported by the EBRD, the need to speed up its implementation, as well as future cooperation prospects in the context of Moldova’s Growth Plan were also discussed. Officials also addressed measures aimed at improving the investment climate and attracting foreign investment into the national economy.
The EBRD is the largest institutional investor in the Republic of Moldova – since the start of its operations in the country in 1992, the Bank has invested over 3 billion euros in 199 projects. Currently, 76 portfolios are active in the country.
