Moldovan deputy PM participates in Lennart Meri International Conference in Tallinn

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/ - Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian has participated in the 15th edition of the Lennart Meri International Conference, titled Tempus Fugit – Time Flees, held in Tallinn on 13-15 May. Experts and decision-makers from a string of countries, organizations, academic institutions, prestigious think tanks, including a group of experts from Russia, took part in the conference, the Reintegration Policies Bureau has reported.    

The participants in the event discussed topical issues on security from the Euro-Atlantic region, as well as from other geographic zones. Special attention was naturally paid to the Russian-Ukrainian war and its impact on the international security. Moldova’s name was repeatedly pronounced in speeches given at the conference, in the context of the potential dangers and threats to its security, which the country has been facing on the last period.

Deputy PM Serebrian participated in discussions at two topic-related sessions; one session was dedicated to perspectives of European integration of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia and the second one was focused on the same European perspectives of the countries from the Western Balkans. At the sessions, the Moldovan officials unveiled the country’s vision on these up-to-date subjects on the national and European agendas.   

On the sidelines of the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian had a string of separate bilateral meetings with Estonia’s Prime Minister Kaja Kallas and Estonian Foreign Affairs Minister Eva-Maria Liimets, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office Tobias Lindner and Minister of State for Europe and North America of the United Kingdom James Cleverly. The sides exchanged opinions on topical issues on the agenda of bilateral relations with these countries. In particular, the Moldovan official thanked the two partners for the valuable assistance provided to Moldova to overcome the problems and difficulties the country is facing; in particular, it is about the backing of the Ukrainian refugees, who found temporary shelter in Moldova. Serebrian also thanked for the support provided to Moldova in solving the energy problems and promote the country’s European aspirations. The European officials reiterated willingness to support Moldova to overcome the problems faced, to implement the democratic reforms and promote the country’s European agenda.       

Also, at the Tallinn conference, the Moldovan official gave a lecture to students of the Estonian School of Diplomacy on perspectives of settling the so-called frozen conflicts in the Black Sea area. Oleg Serebrian also gave an interview to the Postimees newspaper, which is one of the most prestigious daily publications from Estonia.
