Moldovan PM has discussions with European commissioners

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has met more European commissioners in charge of   key areas during his visit to Brussels. The officials discussed progress in the European integration process, strengthening support for reforms, economic development and energy security.

"Moldova is in the process of accession and we are working to become an EU member as soon as possible. To succeed, we need continuity in cooperation programmes with the European Union, as well as unity and involvement on behalf of everyone - state institutions, local administrations, the business community and each citizen," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The PM held bilateral discussions with Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, Piotr Serafin, European Commissioner for Budget, Anti-fraud, and Public Administration, Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, and Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Clean, Fair and Competitive Transition.

The topics discussed by the interlocutors included the current priorities of  Moldova. This involves strengthening energy security by increasing energy efficiency; developing green energy and ensuring storage infrastructure; industrializing agriculture and the need for further export liberalization; support for climate change adaptation measures.

At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted the need to support innovation, expand opportunities for start-ups and strengthen the IT sector, which is becoming an increasingly important engine of the national economy.

The European officials conveyed a strong message of support for the European path of Moldova, appreciating the government's determination to implement reforms, strengthen democratic institutions and align with European standards and values.

In the context, the sides emphasized the need for future European financial instruments and technical assistance to be aligned with the pace of reforms implemented by the Moldovan government.
