Prime Minister Dorin Recean has attended the funeral of maestro Eugen Doga and conveyed a message of condolences to the family and all those who had loved him. Admirers of the great composer, artists, relatives, friends and officials paid their final respects at the funeral ceremony held at the National Palace.

“Eugen Doga united us all. Those who knew him closely will remember him as a warm soul, a lover of life and very hardworking. Those who knew him only through his music will always applaud him for his immense genius. Eugen Doga took Moldova to the whole world, placed us in the world cultural heritage and made us proud that our small country gave the entire world a planetary Man, a titan,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Maestro Eugen Doga left behind a vast cultural heritage: over 200 works for film and theater, dozens of symphonic pieces, romances and waltzes. His melodies have been translated into hundreds of languages and his waltz from the movie, My Sweet and Tender Beast, is considered by UNESCO as one of the four musical masterpieces of the 20th century. The great master's music was performed at the opening of the Olympic Games in 1980, 2014, and 2022, bringing Moldova to world stages.

“We thank him for the music in ‘Lăutarii,’ ‘Șatra,’ ‘The Young Years,’ ‘Guguță,’ ‘Maria Mirabela.’ How fortunate that Eugen Doga lived and that his music will continue to live alongside us. He left us a nice urge, saying that ‘man lives to create goodness.’ Let us listen to his music with gratitude and take care of the maestro's creation and legacy,” added Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

The renowned composer Eugen Doga was born on March 1, 1937, in the village of Mocra and passed away on June 3, 2025. The day of June 5 is a National Day of Mourning, with state flags flown at half-mast and public institutions and citizens are urged to observe a moment of silence in the memory of the great composer.
