Prime Minister paid final tribute to great composer Eugen Doga

Eugen Doga brought Moldova to the entire world, placing us in the global cultural heritage and making us proud that our small country gave the world a planetary Man, a titan. The maestro has entered silence, but his music will resonate through time. This message was conveyed today by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, who came to the National Palace to pay a final tribute to great composer Eugen Doga.

“Today we say goodbye to Eugen Doga. The maestro has entered silence, but his music will resonate through time. In recent days, after learning of Eugen Doga's death, I have spoken with many people, listened, read, and heard people talk about him, in Moldova, abroad, from music, education, theater, from all fields, from the eldest to children. Eugen Doga united us all, in this hall and everywhere. Those who knew him will remember him as a warm soul, a life-loving and very hardworking soul. That's how I knew him too. Those who knew him through music will always applaud him for his immense genius. Eugen Doga brought Moldova to the entire world, placing us in the global cultural heritage and making us proud that our small country gave the world a planetary man, a titan,” said the Prime Minister.

He added that Eugen Doga left behind much beauty, was decorated, applauded, and studied as a reference, his melodies were translated into hundreds of languages, but he remained the same serene, modest, art-loving man. Dorin Recean thanked the great maestro for his works left as a legacy for future generations.

Eugen Doga is being laid to rest today. In the master's memory, today is a Day of Mourning in the entire country. The funeral ceremony is being held at the National Palace, where the coffin was brought in the morning. Eugen Doga will be buried at the central cemetery in Chisinau.

Maestro Eugen Doga, one of the most appreciated and loved composers in the Republic of Moldova and the European cultural space, passed away on 3 June 2025, at the age of 88.

Eugen Doga was a composer, teacher, academician, and a significant figure in national culture.
