Moldovan PM inspects roads' infrastructure projects in southern district

Prime Minister Dorin Recean has inspected more roads’ renovation projects in the southern Leova district. In the village of Filipeni, the PM attended the inauguration of a 3.5-kilometer segment that had been damaged following heavy rains last year. The renovated segment is located at the intersection of four local roads, which have also been rehabilitated.

"Starting from today, citizens can safely travel on this road. The government, through the Commission for Emergency Situations, allocated almost 11 million lei, and the mayor of Filipeni and the locals mobilized exemplarily to repair it and give it a new look," said the prime minister. The residents of the Filipeni village noted  that this road had never been repaired: "Our greatest wish was to have access, because if there was rain or snow, we couldn't get out of here, and we had to bypass about 14 kilometers," said the director of the Filipeni gymnasium, Valentin Lupu.

During discussions with citizens, the PM referred to the importance of modernizing road infrastructure for the development of the region. He stressed  that, in recent years, in the Leova district, the road connecting Leova to Leuseni had being renovated, and soon, the exit from Sarata-Razeși towards Sarma would be restored. At the same time, the Leova-Bumbata bridge, the first new bridge across the Prut since independence, has been built.

"By the end of the year, we will invest 500 million lei in local roads. The largest number of roads put into operation was possible in the last four years, due to the proximity to the European Union and the correct and efficient management of the assistance received. We have the duty to continue on this path," said Dorin Recean.

Also today, the prime minister went to the commune of Sarata Noua to inspect the progress of the rehabilitation works of the national road R34 Hancesti - Leova - Cantemir, the completion of which is delayed. So far, the works are 62-per cent finished. The project involves the rehabilitation of the road sector with a total length of 83 kilometers, with a contractual value of over 56 million euros. In discussions with the general contractor, the subcontractor, representatives of the National Roads Agency, the sides established more measures which the company carrying out the works should implement, in order to complete the project for the benefit of the people from Leova and the entire southern region of the country.
