Moldovan president, European Commissioner for Enlargement discuss reforms, next steps in accession process
President Maia Sandu today in Chisinau met European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, on a visit to Moldova on the occasion of the Moldova–European Union Investment Conference.
During the discussion, the officials exchanged opinion on reforms in Moldova, the alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis and the next steps in the accession process. President Maia Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to pursuing reforms further, including the more challenging ones – justice reform and local public administration reform.
In the context, the head of state welcomed the decision of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to start preparations for the official opening of the first cluster of negotiation chapters for Moldova and Ukraine. The president stressed that this step was a signal of unity and determination on behalf of the European Union, emphasizing that Moldova was ready for the next stage of the accession negotiations.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the investment conference hosted by Moldova, which brought significant commitments for the country’s economy from private companies and development banks. President Maia Sandu highlighted that these investments represented concrete proof that the European path delivers results for citizens: jobs, development and projects that people can feel in their everyday lives.
