Prime Minister at Moldova Digital Summit 2026: Our ambition is not only to join EU, but to help build Europe’s digital future
Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu took part today in the opening of Moldova Digital Summit 2026, one of the most important events in the region dedicated to the digital economy, innovation, and technological transformation. The event is taking place on 5–6 June in Chișinău, bringing together around 2,000 participants – decision-makers, investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, technology leaders and representatives of the digital ecosystem.
In his speech, Munteanu underlined that digitalisation is not just a technological choice, but a strategic choice of the Republic of Moldova for competitiveness, transparency, resilience, and European integration.
“Digital transformation is not about computers. It is about the power of citizens to access services faster, the power of businesses to grow faster, and the power of a country to compete in a world that is changing rapidly,” he said.
The Prime Minister highlighted the progress made in the field of digitalisation, noting that 78% of services intended for the business environment are already available digitally, and that the IT sector, through the Moldova Innovation Technology Park, has generated exports of over one billion euros. At the same time, our country has become one of the fastest-growing startup ecosystems in the region.
Another example of bringing Moldova closer to the European digital space, with a direct impact on our citizens, is integration into the “Roam Like at Home” area, which has contributed to an increase of over 300% in the volume of mobile data used in roaming.
Referring to the role of artificial intelligence in transforming economies and public administrations, the Prime Minister stressed that the next ambition of the Republic of Moldova is to become the main GovTech hub of the Eastern Partnership – a country where technology simplifies public services, reduces bureaucracy and allows governance to move at the pace of the society it serves.
“Our ambition is not only to join the European Union, but to help build Europe’s digital future. Moldova is no longer a country trying to catch up. In many areas of digital transformation, Moldova is beginning to help set the pace,” the Prime Minister said.
In this context, the Head of the Executive reiterated that the Republic of Moldova’s main investment is in human capital. In the digital century, talent is becoming the most valuable resource, and Chișinău is attracting increasing attention from investors, innovators, and international partners.
“We choose innovation. We choose competitiveness. We choose Europe. And we choose to build a state that is just as fast, modern and ambitious as the people it serves. The future will not wait for us, and that is why we will not wait either,” the Prime Minister concluded.
Also present at the event, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos stressed that the digital sector of the Republic of Moldova is an example of how our country’s potential is being harnessed.
“It is a symbol of the transformations we want to see in the economy of the Republic of Moldova with the support of the Growth Plan – a sustainable path to prosperity for all. We want all citizens of the Republic of Moldova to have infrastructure and opportunities comparable to those in the rest of Europe. If Moldova can have companies that are competitive at European level in the digital sector, there is no doubt that the same can be achieved across the entire economy,” said the European Commissioner.
Moldova Digital Summit 2026 offers participants networking opportunities, thematic sessions, practical workshops, B2B meetings and an exhibition area dedicated to technological innovations, startups and international companies. In total, 40 sessions will take place, bringing together around 2,000 participants and over 90 speakers from fields such as public policy, digital transformation, business, investment, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and innovation.
