Chisinau, 7 April /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a visit to Poland, today visited the wholesale market of agricultural and food products from Warsaw. During the visit, she discussed with the market’s head, Janusz Byliński, and Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of State Assets Jan Kanthak possibilities of extending the export of Moldovan products to the EU market and of identifying solutions to overcome the economic crisis triggered by the war from Ukraine, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

At the discussions, the PM referred to the efforts undertaken by the Moldovan cabinet to ensure the country’s food security. The government has recently launched a string of measures of protecting farmers and increased the subsidization fund through a new regulation. The war in Ukraine created logistic obstacles to the exporters of agricultural products to such countries as Ukraine, Russia and Belarus and in this respect the government identified quick solutions to redirect the goods to the Constanta port.

”Following the unleashing of the war in Moldova and increase in prices for fuels, the farmers from Moldova started facing logistic and financial difficulties. In these conditions, the Moldovan government reacted promptly and came up with immediate measures of backing the farmers. Another priority on this segment is the diversification of the sales markets and in this respect we rely on the support of our partners from the European Union, including Poland. It is necessary that we create long-lasting commercial and economic relations of between our states, to prove mutual solidarity, in order to be able to overcome together the challenges which we face,’’ Natalia Gavrilita said at the discussions.

At the same time, the PM expressed the cabinet’s vision as to the liberalization of the transport and removing the quotas of export of farming production to EU markets.

For their part, the Polish official and the director of the Warsaw-based Agricultural Market expressed openness for the deepening of the Moldovan-Polish commercial relations. They noted that Poland was open for taking over a part of the Moldovan products, in order to compensate the losses caused by the partial closing of the markets in the East, in the wake of the war. Also, the participants in the meeting referred to Poland’s experience in the development of local markets and identifying new sales markets, stressing that Moldova has a big potential for extending the trade with the EU market.

Following the meeting, the prime minister discussed with representatives of entrepreneurs involved on Moldova’s market. The participants touched upon the challenges faced in the process of accessing and transportation, as well as promotion of Moldovan products on the export market. The local economic agents highlighted the quality of Moldovan grapes, noting that the products of Moldova might make a strong competition on the EU market. Natalia Gavrilita gave assurances that Moldova’s government would further make efforts needed to support and develop the agro-food sector.
