The first Moldova – European Union summit, hosted by President Maia Sandu, will take place at the State Residence in Chisinau on 4 July, starting at 17:00. The European Union will be represented by President of the European Council António Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

Together with the Moldovan president, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and the Prime Minister Dorin Recean will participate in the summit. This will show the joint commitment of all state institutions to achieve the national goal of joining the European Union.

The organization of this event in Chisinau marks a new stage in Moldova European way. Such bilateral meetings occur only with strategically important partners or candidate countries, such as Ukraine and the Western Balkans states. The holding of the summit not only confirms the recognition of the steps taken by the country, but also the strong political commitment of the European Union to Moldova’s European future.

The participants in the discussions will address topics related to the accession process, covering both the developments recorded so far and the next steps in this process. At the same time, the leaders will discuss expanding economic ties and cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, energy, digitalization and regional development. An important item on the agenda will be the Growth Plan for Moldova, recently adopted by the European Commission, valued at 1.9 billion euros. This plan is an ambitious investment package, through which the European Union supports the modernization of the economy and the improvement of the citizens' living standards.
