Role of civil servants in society appreciated by Moldova's leadership; 120 employees awarded government's Diploma of Honour

President Maia Sandu, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean have sent messages of gratitude to those about 35,000 civil servants of Moldova for the work they carry out.

The event, dedicated to Public Official's Day, aimed to appreciate the role of public officials in the society, encourage performance and professionalism and enhance dialogue and cooperation between public authorities, in order to develop a modern, efficient and citizen-oriented administration. Thus, 120 public officials from central and local administration were awarded with the government's Diploma of Honour.

Maia Sandu urged public sector employees to continue working with dedication, to treat citizens with respect, to be honest and patriotic.

“Moldova can and must have a fair, efficient and respected administration – and you are the key to this transformation. We live in challenging times, but we also have a historic opportunity – to secure Moldova's place in the European Union. The success of this path depends on each of us: on work done well, on respect for people and the courage to move forward together. Our country needs professionals who believe in it, care for it and contribute to the common good,” said the Moldovan president.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu noted that, in the process of negotiating and accession of Moldova to the EU, an important task would be to communicate and explain the decisions adopted for the benefit of all citizens.

“You are the institutional memory of all institutions, you are our partners, our colleagues, and even if you are not always in the front line, you do extraordinary work and help us, the ones who make political decisions,” said the speaker.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean emphasized that public officials represent “the invisible force that moves the state.” “Through your daily professionalism, integrity and dedication, you significantly contribute to the proper work of institutions and the strengthening of trust in public administration. Your work, often discreet, is the pillar on which the progress and stability of our society rely,” said the PM.

The Public Official's Day, marked on June 23, was established in 2012. According to statistical data, at the end of 2024, there were 34,696 people in active public service – 15,409 general status public officials and 19,287 special status public officials.

The event was organized with the support of the Policy Advisory Fund, financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by German Agency for International Development (GIZ) Moldova and the project, Moldova Is Europe - Support for EU Integration.
