Moldovan president says children from middle school forms to benefit from free meals as of 1 September 2025
President Maia Sandu today informed about the launch of a free meal programme for students of middle school forms (V-IX), which will come into effect starting from September 1, 2025. This measure represents an important step for the health and well-being of children and is part of the authorities' commitment to ensuring better conditions in schools.
"As I promised in last autumn, starting from September 1, children in middle school grades will benefit from free meals in schools. The government has allocated the first 80 million lei to support this initiative – an important investment for healthier children and better-educated for the future," said President Maia Sandu.
The government's decision shows a firm commitment to improving access to quality education and ensuring a more equitable school environment for all students. Healthy nutrition is essential for the harmonious development of children and for improving academic performance, and through this programme, the state supports families and contributes to reducing social inequalities.
