Foreign minister meets Moldovans in Southern Italy
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Mihai Popșoi met with Moldovan citizens settled in Calabria and Sicily regions of Italy, as part of a visit dedicated to strengthening relations with the diaspora.
In dialogue with the citizens, he emphasized the commitment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to strengthen ties with communities abroad and to help solve the daily difficulties they face. Among the central topics was the Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Italy, recently approved by the Italian Parliament, which is to be implemented shortly. This will allow recognition of working years and access to pensions and other social benefits for Moldovans working in Italy.
Additionally, the minister announced that a new agreement on the conversion of driver's licenses is near completion and will be signed soon, thus facilitating the lives of Moldovans in Italy.
Popșoi thanked the diaspora for exemplary involvement in the presidential elections and the 2024 referendum and urged a new mobilization for the elections on September 28, 2025, considered crucial for the country's European future.
During the visit, he also met with Mayor of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Falcomatà, to whom he expressed gratitude for the support provided to the Moldovan community.
