Moldovan parliament speaker urges citizens to join March of Sovereignty

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu calls on citizens to participate, on June 23, in a commemorative event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. The event will take place at the monument to Ion and Doina Aldea-Teodorovici on Alexei Mateevici Street in Chisinau at 19:00.

"This is the day when, in 1990, we took the first decisive step towards independence. I invite you to gather, in order to honor the courage of those who believed in freedom and to reaffirm our wish to live in a free and prosperous country," Igor Grosu said.

The official urged participants to wear national attire and bring a tricolor, a symbol of national identity and unity. Additionally, he called on the Diaspora Moldovans to symbolically join the March of Sovereignty, initiated by President Maia Sandu.

"Let's show, wherever we are, that we are united around the values that define us: freedom, democracy and the right to decide our own future," Grosu added.

The Declaration of Sovereignty, adopted on June 23, 1990, paved the way for the independence of the Republic of Moldova, officially proclaimed on August 27, 1991. The next Monday's march is meant to celebrate this historical journey and to reaffirm the citizens' commitment to the sovereignty and integrity of the state.
