Moldovan PM to run at parliamentary elections on list of Action and Solidarity Party

Prime Minister Dorin Recean will run on the list of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) at the parliamentary elections due this year. PAS president Igor Grosu has made statements to this effect at a show on Realitatea Moldova TV channel.

"Obviously, it is right for this to happen. He is a quite involved person, working a lot under enormous pressure," said Grosu, noting that Recean deserves to be among the future MPs.

At the same time, the PAS leader confirmed that he himself would open the list of candidates for a new lawmaker mandate.

The PAS leader noted that the party's list of candidates for the 2025 parliamentary elections had not yet been finalized. He said that President Maia Sandu had a say in the composition of the party's electoral list, and PAS will include candidates who are not party members, but want to contribute to the country's future.

"Our goal is to come up with the best electoral offer – future deputies who surpass parties’ limits. It is important that we have reputable people, professionals, individuals who have shown themselves over time and are known by citizens," Grosu emphasized.

Referring to the present MPs of the Action and Solidarity Party, the party leader specified that some of them would also be on the electoral list for the 2025 elections.

"Some will be reconfirmed and new persons will appear alongside them. We cannot run this campaign as in 2021 – the stakes are different now. It is about the country's future and the direction in which things will evolve," added Igor Grosu.

Igor Grosu ruled out the possibility of governmental reshuffles or the fall of the cabinet of ministers before the elections.

Dorin Recean has served as prime minister of Moldova since February 16, 2023, when he was appointed by Parliament, at a proposal by President Maia Sandu, following the resignation of the former cabinet led by Natalia Gavrilita. Recean has come with an agenda focused on security, public order, digitalization and durable economic development, positioning himself as a technocratic figure with a pragmatic vision for governance.

Previously, during 2012-2014, Dorin Recean served as interior minister, when he initiated reforms in the field of public order and institutional management at the Interior Ministry. Subsequently, he worked as a presidential advisor for defense and national security, also serving as secretary of the Supreme Security Council – positions that gave him a broad perspective on the state's security challenges.

On September 28, 2025, parliamentary elections will be held in Moldova, following the decision to dissolve the current legislative body, which officially ends its mandate on July 11. The election is considered crucial for the country's future European way and for maintaining internal political stability. The elections will determine the composition of the next parliament for a four-year mandate in a complex regional and international context.
