Human rights situation in Transnistrian region – topic of discussion at national conference
Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri participated today in a national conference - Human rights in the Transnistrian region: challenges, responses, reintegration perspectives and the European path, organized by Promo-LEX Association.
The event brought together representatives of public authorities, civil society, diplomatic staff and donor community, as well as national and international experts with extensive experience in defending and promoting human rights.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the multitude of challenges faced by the constitutional authorities, caused by the unresolved Transnistrian conflict, the lack of effective control over the territory on the left bank of the Dniester, and, implicitly, the limited capacity of state institutions to intervene in the region.
Chiveri expressed gratitude to the organizers for the constant involvement in addressing the serious issues in the Transnistrian case, as well as for the dedication and consistency demonstrated in solving a significant number of individual cases of abuse victims in the Transnistrian region.
Furthermore, during the conference, the developments in the Transnistrian settlement process were analyzed in the context of the European path of the Republic of Moldova and the new regional security architecture. Participants discussed the main challenges of this process, as well as the medium and long-term opportunities and advantages for both sides of the Dniester.
