Citizens expected at polls to participate in second round of new local elections for mayor

Citizens with the right to vote are expected today at the polls to participate in the second round of new local elections for the position of mayor, organized in the commune of Rusesti Noi, Ialoveni district, the municipality of Orhei, Orhei district, and the town of Taraclia, Taraclia district.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), following the results of the new local elections of May 17 of this year, none of the candidates for the position of mayor in these localities obtained more than half of the valid votes cast.

The inclusion of the two candidates on the ballot in each locality is done in descending order according to the number of valid votes obtained in the first round of voting.

The 24 polling stations organized for the second round of the new local elections will be open from 07:00 to 21:00. For the second round, the CEC has printed a total run of 41,824 ballot papers.

A voter who, for health reasons or other valid reasons, cannot come to the polling station may request to vote with the mobile ballot box. On election day, such requests are approved by the electoral bureau until 14:00 only upon presentation of a medical certificate.

In the second round of voting, the candidate who obtains the highest number of votes is considered elected. In the event of a tie, the candidate who obtained the highest number of votes in the first round of voting is considered elected.
