Moldova, United States strengthen cooperation in security, energy
The consolidation of the strategic partnership between Moldova and the United States, support for regional security and the development of cooperation in the energy sector today were discussed at a meeting held in Chisinau between Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi and a delegation of the U.S. Congress led by Senator Mark Kelly.
The discussions focused on the support provided to Moldova in the context of regional challenges, as well as measures to strengthen democratic resilience, energy security and the country’s defense capabilities.
During the meeting, Mihai Popsoi highlighted the support provided by the United States for managing the effects of the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, combating hybrid interference and strengthening cybersecurity. The officials also noted the financial assistance of eight million dollars allocated to developing Moldova’s capacities in the cybersecurity field.
An important topic of the talks was energy security and the projects aimed at interconnecting Moldova with the European energy grid. The sides underlined the importance of developing high-voltage power lines with Romania, in order to reduce energy dependencies and strengthen regional stability.
At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors reaffirmed commitment to deepen the political dialogue and expand bilateral cooperation between Moldova and the United States.
