Deputy Prime Minister to attend 81st session of UN General Assembly in New York
Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi will pay a working visit to New York, United States of America, this week. The official is part of the national delegation led by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, which will participate in the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and related events.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the session will bring together heads of state and government, as well as foreign ministers from UN member states, to address the main developments and challenges on the international agenda.
Popșoi’s agenda includes participation and interventions in several high-level meetings. These include the sixth edition of Crimea Platform Summit; the Meeting of the Group of Friends for Accountability following the Crimes Committed in Ukraine; the Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response; the Meeting to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Adoption of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees; and the Partnership for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace and Prosperity Summit.
At the same time, Popșoi will hold meetings with foreign ministers from several countries, including Hungary, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tunisia and Chile. He will also meet with senior UN representatives, as well as the Director-General of UNESCO, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, participation in the high-level segment of the UN General Assembly provides an important platform for promoting Moldova’s national interests and priorities, including in the context of the country’s European path, and for strengthening cooperation with international partners.
