Police investigate reports of flying object, possible explosion in two central Moldovan districts

Police are investigating two reports concerning the sighting of unusual objects or phenomena in the sky over the central Orhei and Calarasi districts. Following preliminary checks, law enforcement officers found no fragments, impact marks or fires confirming that an object had fallen to the ground or that an explosion had occurred.

According to the Police of Moldova, during the night of September 20, at around 1:50 a.m., the Orhei police were alerted by a resident of Berezlogi village, who said he had seen a flying object resembling a drone in the sky.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., the Calarasi police were alerted by a resident of Dereneu village, who reported seeing a bright light in the sky, followed by an explosion.

Police officers responded immediately and conducted checks in the areas indicated by the residents, including outside the built-up areas of Berezlogi and Dereneu.

“Following the preliminary investigation and examination of the area (...) no fragments, impact marks or fires were found to confirm that an explosion had occurred on the ground or that any object had fallen,” the Police said.

Checks are continuing to establish all circumstances and document the case.

Police advise citizens that, if they notice flying objects, witness explosions or identify suspicious objects that have fallen to the ground, they should not approach them and should immediately call the 112 emergency service.
