Moldovan Border Police monitor situation after explosion nearby border with Ukraine; no fragments found in Moldova
Border authorities of Moldova and Ukraine have conducted joint checks in the area of Troitcoe, after the Ukrainian side reported that an object had fallen and caught fire near the border. No fragments or the site of a possible explosion were identified on the territory of Moldova, the Border Police reported.
According to the institution, on September 19 morning, Border Police patrols reported more unidentified aircrafts flying through the airspace of Moldova in the area under the responsibility of the Eastern Regional Directorate.
At around 04:00, more aircrafts were noticed in the area of Caplani. Two of them flew through the airspace of Moldova in the Olanesti–Cistovodnoe direction. Another aircraft was noticed above Caplani, moving from the direction of Crocmaz and subsequently leaving the airspace of Moldova in the Caplani–Crutoiarovca direction.
At 05:19, the Ukrainian authorities informed the Border Police that an object had been noticed falling and subsequently catching fire approximately 1.5–2 kilometers far from the state border, in the direction of the outskirts of Troitcoe.
A Border Police patrol went to the area, while the Moldovan authorities conducted searches and inspections together with the Ukrainian side.
According to updated information provided by the Border Police at 10:25, no fragments or the site of a possible explosion were identified on the territory of Moldova. The Ukrainian side reported that, on the territory of Ukraine, approximately 1.2 kilometers far from the state border line, the site of an explosion and unidentified fragments had been found.
The Border Police continue to monitor the situation in the border area and maintain an operational exchange of information with the Ukrainian authorities.
The institution advises citizens not to approach or touch any unidentified objects or fragments found in the field. The area should be avoided, and any such situation should be reported immediately to the emergency service at 112.
