Prime Minister Vasile Tofan met today local elected officials from the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia (UTA Gagauzia). The discussions focused on local development priorities, budget resources’ management and the investments needed to improve people's living conditions—water and sewerage networks, roads and other infrastructure projects.

The PM emphasized the importance of the cooperation between the government and local public authorities, as well as the efficient allocation of investments. The prime minister stressed that budgetary resources must be planned and used as a priority for projects that bring tangible benefits to people and contribute to the development of local communities. The most frequently mentioned problems in the region are access to water and roads’ infrastructure.

The mayors from the region also shared another message: too many projects and processes that are important for Gagauzia are currently blocked because the region does not have a functioning Popular Assembly. In the context, Prime Minister Tofan emphasized the need to ensure free, fair and transparent elections that would provide the region with legitimate representation capable of working in the interests of its people.

Another topic discussed was unlocking the region's economic potential. Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that Gagauzia represented a natural bridge to Turkey, and that this advantage must be leveraged to create new economic opportunities, attract investments and generate new jobs in the region.
