DOC // Moldova aligns with restrictive measures imposed by United States against Russian oil companies

Moldova is aligning with the international restrictive measures imposed by the United States against Russian oil companies. The decision approved by the Interinstitutional Supervisory Council on the implementation of restrictive measures was published in the Official Journal today.

Through its decision, the Interinstitutional Supervisory Council ordered the freezing of funds and economic resources that belong to, are owned by, or are held, directly or indirectly, by more individuals and entities subject to the restrictions. At the same time, it prohibited the making available of funds and economic resources to the sanctioned subjects, as well as the use of such funds and resources for their benefit.

The State Tax Service will, ex officio, undertake the necessary actions to identify the funds and economic resources belonging to the sanctioned subjects and will issue decisions on freezing within two working days after their identification.

At the end of October, last year, the United States Department of the Treasury announced sanctions against two major Russian oil companies, “in order to reduce Moscow’s ability to finance its war effort in Ukraine.” Shortly after the announcement, the Moldovan authorities said that they were analyzing the effects of the sanctions, as well as their potential impact on the oil products market of Moldova.
