Deputy Prime Minister: Solid partnership between Council of Europe and OSCE enables common and effective response to current challenges

The partnership between the Council of Europe and the OSCE is essential for peace and resilience in Europe. It enables a common and effective response to current challenges. This message was delivered by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi, who participated in his capacity as Chair of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in a meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

The official emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Council of Europe and the OSCE in order to ensure a coordinated approach to the security challenges facing the participating states and to reinforce democratic resilience.

“Over time, the Council of Europe and the OSCE have built a solid partnership, based on democracy, human rights and the rule of law. This relationship enables a common and effective response to current challenges – from transnational threats to the prevention and settlement of conflicts. The Republic of Moldova remains firmly committed to promoting the values that underpin these international organizations and to supporting the work of both forums. During the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, we will continue to promote unity, increase resilience and build a stronger Europe,” Popșoi underlined.

In his speech, the official presented the priorities of the Republic of Moldova in exercising the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers, held under the motto “For a Europe of Peace and Resilience”. These reflect a firm commitment to supporting a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, promoting accountability for the crime of aggression, strengthening democracy and the rule of law, as well as combating disinformation and external interference.

Given the specific nature of the OSCE platform, as well as the organization’s role as mediator in the Transnistrian settlement, the foreign minister reiterated that the Republic of Moldova firmly advocates a peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict, including ensuring the respect of human rights on the left bank of the Dniester. Taking this opportunity, Popșoi reiterated the obligation of the Russian Federation to withdraw its troops and munitions from the territory of the Republic of Moldova, in accordance with its international commitments.
