Mandate of President of Competition Council Plenum ends as of 1 March
Alexei Gherțescu's term as president of the Competition Council will end on 1 March 2026, following a decision adopted today by parliament. The draft was voted by 55 MPs.
The decision comes after Alexei Gherțescu submitted his resignation on February 20, 2026, citing personal reasons. The decision adopted by the parliament officially confirms the termination of his mandate.
Previously, the legal committee on rules and immunities recommended that the relevant parliamentary committee conduct a parliamentary review of Alexei Gherțescu’s activity in his capacity as President of the Competition Council Plenum.
According to the legal framework, the members of the Competition Council Plenum, including the president are appointed by a decision of Parliament, at the proposal of the President of Parliament, with the approval of the relevant parliamentary committee.
Alexei Gherțescu was appointed as President of the Competition Council Plenum on February 17, 2022.
