European Parliament supports Moldova in European integration process; MEP Siegfried Muresan: "We support the opening of accession negotiations across all clusters"
The European Parliament reaffirms its strong support for the European path of Moldova and backs the opening of accession negotiations across all clusters. MEP Siegfried Muresan has made statements to this effect following a meeting held in Brussels with the vice presidents and chairs of the Moldovan parliament’s standing commissions.
As Chair of the European Parliament's Delegation for Relations with Moldova, Muresan congratulated the Moldovan authorities on the progress made in implementing the reforms required for European integration.
"Moldova continues to be one of the best-performing candidate states in implementing reforms. We, the European Parliament, stay the strongest supporter of Moldova’s European path. We continue to support the opening of accession negotiations across all clusters and are working for the first cluster to be opened as soon as possible, preferably this month," the MEP said.
According to him, the European institutions will continue to provide Moldova with political, technical and financial support, in order to advance the process of accession to the European Union.
The statements were made in the context of a study visit to the European Parliament by a delegation of Moldova’s parliament, which takes place on June 1–3. The delegation includes the Deputy Parliament Speakers Doina Gherman and Vlad Batrancea, as well as the heads of the 12 standing parliamentary commissions.
The visit's agenda includes discussions on the progress made by Moldova in the process of European integration, the institutional implications of the European Union's enlargement negotiations and the strengthening of cooperation between the parliament of Moldova and the European Parliament.
During the meetings in Brussels, the head of the commission for European integration, Marcel Spatari, and the head of the commission for economy, budget, and finance, Radu Marian, are taking part in debates on the European Union's enlargement strategy and its impact on candidate states.
At the same time, the head of the legal commission, Veronica Rosca and the Chair of the commission for human rights and interethnic relations, Grigore Novac, are participating in discussions on to the recommendations made by the ODIHR (Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights) election observation mission following the parliamentary elections of September 28, 2025.
The visit comes after the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Moldovan parliament and the European Parliament and aims to deepen relations between the two institutions in the context of the process of accession to the European Union, as well as to strengthen mechanisms for supporting democracy. The closing session will be attended by Deputy Parliament Speakers Doina Gherman and Vlad Batrancea, together with the Vice President of the European Parliament Nicolae Stefanuta.
