Visit to Taraclia: Prime Ministers of Moldova and Bulgaria inaugurate University branch and reaffirm support for Bulgarian community

Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean and his Bulgarian counterpart Rossen Jeliazkov are on a joint visit to Taraclia district, one of the most important regions densely populated by ethnic Bulgarians. The two officials will participate in the inauguration ceremony of Ruse University branch - the first higher education institution to be opened outside of Bulgaria.

Recean said that the relationship with Bulgaria is based on trust, joint projects and mutual support. He emphasized that in recent years, visible and lasting investments in education, infrastructure, energy and community development have been made in Taraclia.

"These are investments that can be seen and that matter. Schools have been equipped with modern equipment and buses, kindergartens have been renovated, and Bulgarian ethnic teachers teach their native language to students. We are going to Taraclia not only to inaugurate a university but to meet with people, mayors, headmasters and community leaders to discuss new development opportunities," Recean said.

The official highlighted the results of investments in local infrastructure: 15 km of water pipes constructed, 26 km of roads rehabilitated, three schools modernized, and the district hospital equipped with equipment, including the renovation of the Therapy Ward.

"Just 2 km from this hospital, a Russian drone crashed - a tragic reminder of how fragile peace is. While Russia targets civilians in regions inhabited by Moldovans, Ukrainians, Gagauzians and Bulgarians, we choose to build, unite and invest in our common future," the Moldovan Prime Minister pointed out.

Dorin Recean said "the future of Moldova also means the future of the Bulgarian ethnics in Taraclia," in a European Moldova where "every citizen has the chance to live in freedom, dignity and prosperity."

Taraclia University, now a branch of Ruse University will offer specializations in Bulgarian, Romanian and English languages, European diplomas, and scholarships for students. The Bulgarian Government has donated 1,000 Bulgarian literature textbooks to support the preservation of linguistic and cultural identity.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said that the opening of this branch is an important step for strengthening cultural and educational ties.

"This is an extraordinary project, and I want to thank the Republic of Moldova for the cooperation. In 2025-2026, specialties are planned in fields such as science, computer science, agriculture, technology, business and linguistics," Jeliazkov noted.

The Bulgarian official assured his country’s support for Moldova's European path and reiterated Sofia's readiness to assist Chișinău in diversifying energy sources.

The visit of the two Prime Ministers to Taraclia is a new signal of solidarity and commitment to supporting ethnic communities, quality education and a common European future.
