Head of State: Moscow’s accusations against Intelligence and Security Service false

President Maia Sandu said today that Moscow’s accusations against the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS) of the Republic of Moldova are false. The position was expressed after the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia announced that in Moscow an “alleged agent of the special services of the Republic of Moldova” had been detained, who allegedly came to Russia “to carry out a mission that would be directed against the security of the Russian state”.

“The accusations made by Moscow today against the Intelligence and Security Service are false, but the risks to our citizens are real. This is what we have talked about, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned our citizens that unfortunately, there are more and more cases when our citizens are arrested without being real reasons for these actions by Moscow. I just want to tell the citizens of our country that we have an embassy, we have consular services, and all those who need support can contact our colleagues at the Embassy in Moscow. I repeat, the accusations of the Russian Federation against SIS are false,” the head of state said.

The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation announced today that in Moscow an “alleged agent of the special services of the Republic of Moldova” had been detained, who allegedly came to Russia “to carry out a mission that would be directed against the security of the Russian state.”

The Intelligence and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova has rejected these accusations, noting that “such statements represent an attempt to manipulate public opinion and to increase tensions in the region.”

“The institution carries out its activity in accordance with national legislation and international law,” the SIS Press Service communicated.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that verification measures are being undertaken, including through the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow.
