More Moldovan citizens report intimidation or detention actions in Russia; Foreign Affairs Ministry says Moldova's Embassy in Moscow makes efforts to secure their release
More Moldovan citizens have notified the authorities of Moldova about intimidation or detention actions both upon entering the Russian Federation and on the territory of this state. The Embassy of Moldova in Moscow, through its consular office, is providing support and making diplomatic efforts to secure the release of these persons.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) today made clarifications to this effect, in the context of statements made by politicians of Moldova regarding the treatment of Moldovan citizens in Russia.
“In recent years, in the Russian Federation, there has been an intensification of intimidation actions and even detentions of Moldovan citizens, both at the entry into Russia and on its territory. More Moldovan citizens are notifying the authorities of Moldova about such abusive actions, which has led to the issuance of travel alerts for Russia by the MAE, already in June 2025. The Embassy of Moldova in Moscow, through its consular office, is providing support and making diplomatic efforts to get the release of Moldova’s citizens,” the MAE specified.
In the context, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu urged citizens to seek information only from official sources.
“When it comes to citizens of Moldova who find themselves in such situations, especially in this country, which is dangerous for traveling, living, or visiting, please get your information from state institutions, not from politicians, as they are only trying to speculate on these cases,” Igor Grosu said.
In such situations, citizens can contact the diplomatic services of Moldova, which will intervene through official channels.
