Deputy Prime Minister meets with President of Azerbaijan

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi had a meeting today with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, during his first official visit to Baku. The discussions focused on the development of Moldovan-Azerbaijani relations and the prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation in areas such as the economy, energy, culture and tourism.

The head of Moldovan diplomacy noted Azerbaijan’s role in strengthening energy security at the regional and European levels, in the context of current geopolitical developments.

"The Republic of Moldova supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan. We condemned the drone attacks of March 5 on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which targeted civilian facilities and injured two civilians. Our country expresses its solidarity with Azerbaijan. Such actions are unacceptable and contrary to international law," said Mihai Popșoi.

The officials also reconfirmed their interest in strengthening political dialogue and harnessing the cooperation potential between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi is paying a working visit today to Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan, at the invitation of his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov. The program includes meetings with the President of the Parliament (Milli Majlis), Sahiba Gafarova, as well as with First Deputy Minister of Economy Elnur Aliyev and representatives of the energy company SOCAR. The official will also lay flowers at the Alley of Honor and at the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
