Moldova takes over chairmanship of Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers

On 14 November, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi will participate in a meeting of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, in Strasbourg. During the event, the Republic of Moldova will assume the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe for the period of November 14, 2025 – May 15, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Popșoi will chair the Committee of Ministers meeting and will present the priorities of the Moldovan Chairmanship of the Council of Europe. In addition, the official will participate in the flag-raising ceremony of the Republic of Moldova in Place de la République in Strasbourg and the launch of a tram featuring the Chairmanship logo.

The Committee of Ministers is the main decision-making body of the Council of Europe, responsible for ensuring the implementation of the organization's objectives. In this context, member states are represented by their ministers of foreign affairs or their permanent representatives to the Council of Europe.

The Chairmanship of the Committee is held in rotation and in alphabetical order by each member state for a term of six months. This is the second time the Republic of Moldova has held this responsibility, the first Chairmanship being in 2003.
