On 14 November, Moldova will take over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The mandate will include a comprehensive calendar of events, and the conclusion of the Chairmanship will be marked by the Ministerial Session in Chisinau on 15 May 2026, which will be attended by the foreign ministers from the 46 member states of the Council of Europe.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi said that taking over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe is both an honor and a great responsibility.

The official highlighted that Moldova's mandate will include a comprehensive calendar of events, both in Chisinau and Strasbourg.

“We will emphasize child protection in the online environment, the fight against misinformation and foreign interference, combating violence against women, and promoting social rights,” Popșoi said.

He also added that the six-month period during which Moldova will hold the chairmanship will be an excellent opportunity to showcase our culture and traditions.

The conclusion of the Chairmanship will be marked by the Ministerial Session in Chisinau on 15 May 2026, attended by the foreign ministers of the 46 member states of the Council of Europe.

Moldova first held the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in 2003. “Today, we return to this position with more experience, confidence, and strong commitment to European values,” concluded Popșoi.
