Moldova's PM says leadership's clear goal to open all negotiation chapters by end of 2025
Moldova has overcome unprecedented challenges and has taken concrete and courageous steps on the path to European integration. Our accession to the European Union is already happening - this is the new normal for Moldova. Moldova is determined to move forward and our goal is quite clear: to open all negotiation chapters by the end of this year. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made statements to this effect, after the ninth Association Council between Moldova and the European Union, held in Brussels today.
‘’I am pleased to be here in Brussels today and I am honored, for the 9th meeting of the Moldova - European Union Association Council. I return here with gratitude and determination - with gratitude for the constant help provided to Moldova, but also with determination for our European path, enshrined by the will of the people and consecrated in the Constitution of our country,’’ said Dorin Recean at the press conference held together with Vice President of the European Commission, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, and European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos.
The PM said that the country’s accession to the European Union was already happening - this is the new normal for Moldova, and the relationship between the two sides had surpassed the symbolic stage, when EU accession was just a dream and has entered an execution phase, with daily work.
'We have recently in Chisinau; now we meet again in Brussels - the fact that these meetings have become a habit shows that our relationship has exceeded the symbolic stage, when EU accession was just a dream and has entered an execution phase, with daily work. Our accession to the European Union is already happening - this is the new normal for Moldova,’’ the prime minister specified.
Dorin Recean also said that Moldova had made concrete and courageous steps on the path to European integration. At the same time, according to the official, our country's objective is quite clear: to open all negotiation chapters by the end of the year.
‘’We have overcome unprecedented challenges - from foreign interference aiming to trigger a humanitarian crisis to ongoing destabilization attempts. Moldovans have shown that we are already Europeans and that our choice is a future in the European Union. Our objective is very clear: to open all negotiation chapters by the end of this year,’’ Dorin Recean stressed.
The PM highlighted that the European Union stood by Moldova, in order to support our efforts to build a developed society. Thus, with European support, during difficult times, economic stability was ensured, energy compensations were provided and social measures were implemented to protect people's purchasing power. With European support, in the coming years, the authorities plan to repair more roads, build new hospitals, modernize schools and universities, support the industrialization of agriculture, stimulate exports and develop companies.
‘’On our own, it would take us half a century to achieve what we will accomplish in the next few years. Together with the European Union, we can do it much faster and bridge the development gap between Moldova and European states,’’ the prime minister noted.
The PM also said that, this year, the authorities had ensured Moldova's definitive independence from gas blackmail and increased the production of renewable energy, and soon, the state would take control of the gas supply infrastructure. ‘’We avoided a humanitarian crisis and a conflict that the Kremlin wanted to trigger in the Transnistrian region,’’ Recean said.
The prime minister said that the 2024 elections and the constitutional referendum had confirmed citizens' strong choice for European values, for freedom and a peaceful future.
‘’We are working for accelerated integration into the European single market - as this means investments, jobs and a better standard of living for all Moldovans. We are working for a future based on common values and a strong attachment to freedom and peace. We will continue to fight against disinformation that endangers national security; we will protect the integrity of the electoral processes and we will work daily, in order to make ensure that reforms are not just a nice document, but a reality for every citizen,’’ the prime minister said.
Dorin Recean noted that Moldova was determined to move forward with seriousness, hard work and EU support.
‘’We, the Moldovans, have a saying, 'Eyes scare, but hands rejoice.' This is precisely the proverb that shows both our nation's perseverance to build its future and the belief in Moldova's power to succeed. We are not afraid of work, because we know where we want to go. Moldova is determined to move forward. With seriousness, hard work and your support. I am sure that Moldova can, and the European Union can do even more, if it has Moldova in its family!’’ Dorin Recean concluded.
The ninth Moldova - European Union Association Council was held in Brussels today. The participants in the meeting considered the progress made by the country on the path of joining the European Union, especially in the fields of justice reform, the fight against corruption, strengthening democracy and security. Economic cooperation, particularly in the energy field, was also analyzed.
