Moldova to implement national plan for protection of vital infrastructures
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is set to examine a bill aimed at strengthening national security by establishing a legislative framework for identifying, designating, and protecting national critical infrastructures. The document calls for the development of a national plan to protect vital infrastructures and the creation of a National Coordination Center for Critical Infrastructure Protection.
The project, developed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, aims to transpose the EU Directive on the resilience of critical entities and focuses on protecting essential sectors such as energy, health, digital infrastructure, banking, water supply and sanitation, public administration, transport, food production, and medical equipment.
It will be a structure subordinated to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and will be responsible for strategic planning, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation of policies regarding critical infrastructure protection. The center will develop normative acts and coordinate the implementation process of legislative measures.
National coordination will be ensured by the Prime Minister through an inter-institutional working group. This group will support the continuous process of identifying critical infrastructures, monitor the application of protective measures, and contribute to the improvement of the legal framework.
The law is set to be put to a vote in the plenary session of Parliament.
