Foreign ministry recommends Moldovans avoid travel to Russia
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova issued a travel alert for the Russian Federation this morning, as an increasing number of Moldovan citizens are subjected to harassment, intimidation, or abusive treatment within this country's territory.
“This behavior reflects a systematic policy of the Russian authorities against Moldovan citizens. Indeed, reports of such abuses have been previously noticed in the public space,” states the text issued by the MAE.
At the same time, the Ministry deems the statements of Russian authorities, claiming that Moldovans are affiliated with special services, as unfounded and speculative.
The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Moscow has requested consular access to several detained Moldovan citizens, but the Russian side has refused this access.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that it is closely monitoring the cases and undertaking diplomatic measures to provide consular assistance to affected citizens.
