Groups of amalgamated mayoralties created in all regions of Moldova: government plans investments of 366 million lei for modernization of localities

Groups of amalgamated mayoralties have been created in all regions of Moldova, which confirms that more and more localities want stronger mayoralties, with more resources and a greater capacity to meet people's needs. In total, 17 groups have been formed so far, bringing together 55 mayoralties and over 90,000 residents. Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu has said that 366 million lei was planned for the infrastructure and development of these localities.

“We are making progress in the voluntary amalgamation process. Today, we have groups of amalgamated mayoralties in all regions of the country. This shows that more and more localities want stronger mayoralties, with more resources and with a greater capacity to respond to people's needs,” said Alexei Buzu.

According to the official, this week alone, the decision-making process was finalized in eight groups made up of 29 mayoralties. These are:

• Abaclia and Iordanovca, with the administrative center in Abaclia;

• Carabetovca and Sadaclia, with the administrative center in Sadaclia;

• Balceana, Boghiceni, Lapusna, Pascani, Pervomaiscoe and Secareni, with the administrative center in Lapusna;

• Cupcui, Filipeni, Romanovca and Sarata Noua, with the administrative center in Filipeni;

• Hansca and Costesti, with the administrative center in Costesti;

• Darcauti, Teleseuca, Criscauti, Visoca and Rudi, with the administrative center in Visoca;

• Cernita, Ciripcau, Cosernita and Gura Camencii, with the administrative center in Gura Camencii;

• Rublenita, Baxani, Solcani and Septelici, with the administrative center in Rublenita.

The voluntary amalgamation process continues until July 31. “We urge everyone involved to talk openly with people, to explain the benefits of this process, to respond to concerns and to make responsible decisions for the future of the communities,” noted Alexei Buzu.

Starting from next August, the Executive will launch the process of normative amalgamation. In the voluntary stage, localities can decide for themselves with whom they merge, how they organize their administration and what their priorities are, while the government supports communities with development incentives.

According to the latest information presented by the authorities, 773 mayoralties of Moldova have officially launched voluntary amalgamation procedures, in an effort to reconfigure and strengthen local public administration. A number 112 localities of them have already chosen to merge their administrative structures around 24 district centers.

In late last January, the government announced the launch of the preparation process for the local public administration reform, as part of efforts to modernize administration and improve public services. Subsequently, the authorities organized extensive public consultations, after which the reform concept was presented.

The parliament has recently approved legislative amendments that simplify and improve the voluntary amalgamation process of administrative and territorial units. According to the authorities, the changes were developed following consultations attended by over 4,500 mayors and citizens. At present, more than 400 decisions to initiate the voluntary amalgamation process have been approved nationally.
