Designated PM of Moldova presents governmental team

Designated Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has presented his entire governmental team, with which he will go to parliament to request the vote of confidence from the MPs on July 21. The team includes both new names and members of the previous government, who will remain in office.

The new government will have five deputy prime ministers. The positions will continue to be held by Eugeniu Osmochescu, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister; Vladimir Bolea, Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister; Mihai Popsoi, Foreign Affairs Minister; Cristina Gherasimov, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration; and Valeriu Chiveri, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration.

Dan Perciun will keep his position as Education and Research Minister, Daniella Misail-Nichitin will continue to act as Interior Minister and Vladislav Cojuhari will retain his position as Justice Minister.

At the same time, Radu Musteata is proposed for the position of Agriculture and Food Industry Minister. Until now, Musteata has served as Director of the National Food Safety Agency.

MP Victoria Belous will take over the leadership of the Finance Ministry, a position she has held previously. Alexandru Gasnas will be the new Health Minister.

Natalia Plugaru will continue to serve as Labour and Social Protection Minister, and Gheorghe Hajder will remain Environment Minister. Dan Suruceanu is proposed to lead the Culture Ministry, Anatolie Nosatii will remain at the head of the Defence Ministry and the Energy portfolio will continue to be managed by Dorin Junghietu.

The position of Secretary General of the Government will continue to be held by Alexei Buzu.

President Maia Sandu on July 11 designated Vasile Tofan as candidate for the office of Prime Minister of Moldova. According to the Constitution of Moldova, the designated candidate must, within 15 days, request parliament’s vote of confidence for the government’s programme of activity and for its composition.

As part of the process of drafting the governing programme and forming the future cabinet, Vasile Tofan held discussions with all 16 acting ministers. Subsequently, the designated prime minister took part in consultations with representatives of the business community, trade unions, employers’ associations, local public authorities and civil society.

On July 21, the cabinet of ministers proposed by the designated candidate for the office of prime minister, Vasile Tofan, will request the parliament’s vote of confidence.
