Parliament of Moldova might open Representation Office to European Parliament
The parliament of Moldova might open a Representation Office to the European Parliament, in order to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions and facilitate the exchange of experience in the process of European integration. The topic was discussed in Brussels by the leadership of the secretariat of Moldova’s parliament and representatives of the European legislature.
The possibility of creating such an office was addressed during a working visit paid by the leadership of the parliamentary secretariat to Brussels on July 15–16. The discussions focused on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the parliament of Moldova and the European Parliament, signed on March 18, 2026, as well as on deepening cooperation between the two institutions.
Secretary General of the Parliament Victor Agrici had a meeting with his counterpart of the European Parliament, Alessandro Chiocchetti. The Moldovan official appreciated the constant support provided by the European Parliament to Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union.
"Interparliamentary cooperation is a key component of this partnership. It facilitates the exchange of experience, strengthens democratic institutions, improves parliamentary oversight and promotes responsible governance. For candidate countries, it also contributes to the harmonization of national legislation with the acquis of the European Union and facilitates the implementation of European democratic standards and values," said Victor Agrici.
According to him, the programme of activities established under the Memorandum of Understanding will help strengthen relations between parliamentary committees, develop the Women MPs Platform, promote political dialogue through the Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy, as well as support young MPs of Moldova.
"At parliamentary level, the planned activities will strengthen cooperation between our committees, continue the support provided to the Women MPs Platform, promote political dialogue through the Jean Monnet Dialogue for Peace and Democracy, implement the ‘Triangle of Democracy’ Programme and support young members of parliament from Moldova through the ‘Young Parliamentary Leaders’ Programme, with a focus on the process of accession to the European Union," the secretary general of the parliament noted.
During the meetings in Brussels, the sides also discussed expanding training opportunities for parliamentary staff, organizing joint conferences, seminars and round tables, as well as other forms of institutional cooperation.
The delegation of Moldova’s parliament was made of Secretary General Victor Agrici, Deputy Secretary General Tamara Gheorghita, as well as representatives of the General Legal Directorate and the Assistance and Development Directorate.
During the visit, representatives of the parliamentary secretariat held meetings with Members of the European Parliament Dan Barna and Gheorghe Falca, as well as with officials of the European Parliament, including Markus Winkler, Deputy Secretary General of the European Parliament, Sanna Lepola, Head of the Directorate-General for Democracy Support, as well as other European officials.
The visit to Brussels aimed to strengthen cooperation between the administrations of the two parliaments, in the context of the European path of Moldova and the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Moldovan parliament and the European Parliament.
