Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry makes clarifications on denunciation of Commonwealth of Independent States' visa-free travel Agreement

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) today provided clarifications regarding the denunciation of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Visa-Free Travel Agreement. MAE said that travels between Moldova and the Russian Federation would not be affected, as there is a separate bilateral agreement that stays in effect.

According to Ministry, the changes will affect only Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, with which there are no similar bilateral agreements.

The government on November 12 is set to consider the approval of the draft law on the denunciation of the Agreement on visa-free travel for citizens of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the territory of its members, signed in Bishkek on October 9, 1992.

At the same time, at the meeting, the cabinet will examine the denunciation of: the Agreement on the principles and procedures for military transport, concluded in Tashkent on May 15, 1992; the Agreement on the principles of levying indirect taxes on the export and import of goods (works, services) between CIS participating states, concluded in Moscow on November 25, 1998; the Agreement on cooperation in the field of chemistry and petrochemistry, signed in Moscow on September 9, 1994; the Agreement on cooperation in the use of compressed natural gas as a fuel for motor vehicles, signed in Minsk on May 26, 1995; the Agreement on cooperation in ecology and environmental protection, concluded in Moscow on February 8, 1992.
