Moldovan Parliament marks 34 years of activity

Over 1,600 citizens from across the country participated in Open Doors Day at the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The event was organized to mark the 34th anniversary of the legislative institution.

The event was kicked off by Valentin Luchianov brass band from Zaim village, Căușeni district. The musicians, guided by conductor Ion Veste created a festive atmosphere and managed to engage deputies and Parliament visitors in a traditional dance.

The Open Doors Day program included activities for all ages. Children were impressed by vintage cars used for transporting high-ranking officials, took part in interactive activities, and went home with eco-friendly bags decorated at a specially organized workshop.

All visitors participated in guided tours of the Parliament building, which included the Parliament Museum, the press conference room, the Europe Hall, and the plenary session hall. Guests were guided by deputies who shared insights into the legislative institution's backstage activities, answered questions, and listened to suggestions. Some guests had the opportunity to better understand what it's like to be a deputy by simulating press conferences and answering questions.

Additionally, a treasure hunt was organized, where participants tested their knowledge about democracy and parliamentarism. Young people from Rezina and Chișinău engaged in a knowledge race, navigated a route in the Parliament's courtyard consisting of seven locations, and in the end, the best were awarded prizes.

"We are delighted to see the citizens' interest, who throughout the year participate in guided tours or other public events organized by the Parliament. That's why we decided to mark the 34th anniversary together with visitors. We thank them for their interest," said Parliament Secretary General Igor Talmazan.

Parliament guests appreciated the legislative institution's initiative to open its doors, and many of them shared messages on the anniversary, wishing success, prosperity and progress in the country's European integration process.

Furthermore, visitors showed empathy and civic spirit by joining the Parliament-organized campaign, Give a Book. The collected books will be donated to the beneficiaries of Diaconia day centers, on World Children's Day.

The legislative forum has been known as Parliament since 23 May 1991, previously called the Supreme Soviet. On 23 May 1991, according to the decision of the Supreme Soviet of the Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic of the 12th legislature, formed after the first democratic elections, the union republic MSSR transformed into the Republic of Moldova and the Supreme Soviet became the first Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
