PM after detention of Customs Service employees
Corruption cannot be tolerated, and authorities will continue to make all necessary changes to reduce risks and encourage transformation in justice so that any potential corruption cases are detected and appropriately punished. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement, following the detention yesterday of three Customs Service employees in corruption cases.
The Prime Minister emphasized that it is important to have a conclusion in investigating corruption cases, and those who break the law should be punished.
“Corruption is not tolerated. I welcome the actions of law enforcement in this case and we will continue this fight against corruption, especially where the risk of corruption is higher, and the Customs Service is an institution where the risk of corruption is higher. There is more attention there and we will not stop making all the necessary changes to reduce risks and to encourage transformation in justice so that these cases are detected and punished appropriately. Corruption cases, if left unpunished, encourage other corruption. It is important to be determined to go all the way with punishing the corrupt people,” Recean said today.
The head of Căușeni Customs Station was detained by officers of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) in a corruption case where previously the head of the Central Customs Office and a customs broker were detained.
According to the CNA, all three individuals are being investigated for passive corruption committed under aggravated circumstances and are currently in the custody of the institution. During the criminal investigation actions, CNA officers and prosecutors seized multiple mobile phones from the suspects, as well as financial means totaling about 1.1 million lei, in various currencies.
