Moldova has new ambassador to Sweden

The decree appointing Viorel Ursu as extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to the Kingdom of Sweden was published today in the Official Journal and has come into effect.

Viorel Ursu is a diplomat and expert in European affairs, with over two decades of experience in international relations, democratic development, and the expansion of the European Union. Until recently, he represented the Republic of Moldova as an ambassador to the United States of America and the United Mexican States, contributing in the last three years to deepening the relationships with these countries.

Previously, Viorel Ursu was director of the Europe Department at the Open Society Foundation in London, where he coordinated programs dedicated to good governance, the rule of law, and the strengthening of civil society. He also worked as a senior policy analyst at the Open Society European Policy Institute in Brussels, contributing to the formulation of European policies for the Eastern neighborhood.

He began his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and later was a lecturer at Moldova State University, where he taught international law and human rights. He is a graduate of the College of Europe (Poland) with a master's degree in European studies and holds a bachelor's degree in law from the State University of Moldova.
