Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemns Russian officials' statements on possible election fraud via diaspora

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) strongly condemns recent statements by officials of the Russian Federation, which suggest that election fraud is being prepared in Moldova via diaspora. The institution describes the statements as "a new unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of Moldova".

According to MAE, such statements "are part of a disinformation campaign aimed at influencing electoral processes and discrediting Moldovan communities abroad."

"MAE categorically disapproves these maneuvers of informational warfare and emphasizes that the Moldovan authorities are fully focused on organizing parliamentary elections democratically, transparently, and according to the legal framework. Joint efforts are being made to ensure that every voter can freely and uninfluencedly express their vote, including Moldovan citizens in the diaspora, who represent an important and respected part of our society," stated the institution.

The MAE also said "Moldova reaffirms its strong commitment to democratic values and rejects any external attempts to undermine electoral processes and state stability."

Recently, authorities have noted several external interferences in the context of this autumn's parliamentary elections. Thus, President Maia Sandu convened a meeting of the Supreme Security Council to discuss measures to combat informational manipulation and foreign interference in electoral processes.
