CEC rejects Russian disinformation campaigns

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) firmly rejects the recent statements by Russian Federation officials, claiming that the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova would be rigged with the involvement of the diaspora. The institution emphasized that 'these statements are part of a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining trust in the electoral process and denigrating the important role of Moldovan citizens abroad'.

CEC noted that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, residing abroad, are an integral part of society, possessing the same constitutional rights in the voting process.

'The electoral authority rejects any attempt to marginalize or question their right to a free and informed choice. CEC specifies that the entire electoral process is organized in accordance with national legislation and international standards, in conditions of transparency, integrity, and respect for the voter's will. Security, monitoring, and verification measures are rigorously applied to ensure that every vote is correctly counted and reflects the real choice of the voter,' communicated the institution.

In this context, the Commission urges all citizens, at home and abroad, 'to get informed from official and credible sources, to not engage in manipulation campaigns, and to exercise their right to vote freely and responsibly.'

The statements were also condemned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The institution described the statements as 'a new unacceptable interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
