Moldovan president sums up results of visit to Ukraine
Chisinau, 13 January /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today held a news conference, during which she unveiled the results of her visit to Kiev. Sandu informed that she had asked for the support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in investigating the frauds with Moldova’s properties in Ukraine.
The head of state noted that the 12 January visit to the capital of Ukraine had been the first one in the last five years and the Moldovan-Ukrainian bilateral relations would acquire a new dimension.
„In Ukraine, I had three important meetings, after the bilateral ties had been suspended in the last five years. We want to be more than just neighbours, we are friends and we must act based on a strategic plan. In Kiev, I signed two documents – a joint declaration and a memorandum on the development of the potential of transport and transit of Moldova and Ukraine. An important step to the deepening of our relations is also the setting up of the Presidents’ Council,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The Moldovan president also said that she asked for the support of her Ukrainian counterpart in investigating the frauds with Moldova’s properties, among which the quarries from Ukraine and the building of the Consulate from Odessa.
Sandu specified that, in Kiev, she had insisted on a European expertise as regards the construction of the hydro power stations on Dniester. ‘’I voiced concern about the situation of the Dniester river and in particular, as regards the proposal to build hydro power stations. I reiterated the proposal for us to ask the European Union to make an evaluation of the environmental impact, which I will actually do during a forthcoming visit to Brussels,’’ Maia Sandu added.
